Fearless or Fearful? The limitations of dreamers with audacious dreams.

Sue and Sara, have one thing in common: They both have audacious dreams. If those dreams were to come to fruition, they would positively change their lives and that of their families. These dreams are so powerful that they would create jobs and support many families. One of their audacious dreams could disrupt an industry. The other could change the world. They are audacious dreams, after all.

Sue is fearless with confidence to spare. She knows what she really wants and is confident she knows what it takes to get it. She pushes forward everyday, making consequential decisions whether or not she has the information she needs. She takes risks based upon assumptions. She is guided by the muse of temerity masquerading as courage.

Sara is cautious with a confidence deficit. She thinks she knows what she wants but is fearful that the unknowns are insurmountable. She operates in a state of virtuous procrastination, spending her days getting ready to get ready. She is guided by the muse of timidity masquerading as prudence.

Though they appear different, Sue and Sara are struggling to move forward toward their audacious dreams for the same reason—they are interpreting their reality through the muses of timidity or temerity.

Timidity and Temerity are twins. If they work together they can produce rational energy. As partners they tame unbridled  exuberance and irrational self-doubt.

Without making a political comment, my heart is heavy watching President Biden struggle with perhaps the most consequential decision of his life. Only he can make the decision because of his position. What does it take to make a decision that may require you to remove yourself from the equation? A really good coach knows how to listen and ask questions that prompt the client to seek the answer to questions that only they can find. #coaching #executivecoaching #decisionmaking
